D minor Scale 2

Reflection:

This video contains the same content as the 1st video. In this video I have played the minor scales better than in the previous video. I will continue to practice these scales so I can play them well during the assessment.

D minor Scale 1

Reflection:

This is my first attempt on playing the natural, harmonic and melodic D minor scale at home. My fingering is still not good, but I know the scales already. I will practice more of it.

November 28, 2011

During the theory session, we wrote the MDW for this term's summary of reflections. Then, we practiced the natural, harmonic and melodic minor scales for the assessment.

I did more than half of the MDW reflections. But I didn't do the minor scales pretty well because I'm not used to them.

I will continue filling in the rest of the MDW, as well as practice the minor scales and my composition at home.

Composition Final 6

Reflection:

In this video, I played my composition in a similar way with the 5th video. I also made very few mistakes in this video, and I have succeed in using the pedal. I will practice my composition more so that I will be ready for the upcoming practical assessment.

Composition Final 5

Reflection:

In this video, I played my composition well. I did push the pedal of the piano, and I succeed in harmonizing the song with the pedal. I will maintain this state so that I can improve more if I made a few mistakes in the video.

November 23, 2011

We learned about the three types of minor scales today during the theory session. Then, we practiced our own compositions in front of the class in the instrument session.

I understood all of the explanation about the minor scales. I performed my composition well, but I still have the chance to improve.

I will exercise doing the three types of minor scales, also practice my composition harder at home.

November 21, 2011

In the theory session, we learned about the minor harmonic chords and composed an 8 - bar of minor chords. Then, all of us practiced our own compositions during the instrument session.

I composed the 8 - bar composition but I haven't tried it. And I have memorized my 32 - bar composition, but I still need to improve.

I will learn more about minor scales and chords, as well as practice my composition more, so I can play it better.

Composition Final 4

Reflection:

This is my second attempt to play my composition with the piano pedal. I became more used to it so I made less mistakes than in my first video. I will continue to practice harder so I can play it fluently.

Composition Final 3

Reflection:

In this video I have tried to use the pedal while playing my composition, but in the end I made a few mistakes towards the end of the composition because I also need to concentrate on pushing the pedal.

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

November 16, 2011

Most of us played our compositions in front of the class during the theory session. In the instrument session, we practiced our compositions again.

As reviewed by my classmates, I played my composition well, but it can be improved.

I will practice harder for my composition, so that I can play it not just well, but very well during the practical assessment.

November 14, 2011

During theory class, we learned about chord progressions and composed an 8 - bar song consisting of C-G-Am-F chords. Then, at instrument class we practiced our own composition in front of the class.

I did well while composing the song, since the chord progressions are easy to develop. But I didn't do well in performing in front of the class since I didn't practice at home.

I will practice the chord progressions and my composition at home, especially for the articulation.

Composition Final 2

Reflection:

This is my second time playing my edited composition. I did slightly better in this video than in the first one because I have tried to avoid stopping briefly and avoid repeating the same mistake from the first video. I will continue to fix my playing and try to use the pedal next time.

Composition Final 1

Reflection:

This video contains the final version of my AA'BA' composition. Since this is my first time playing it, I haven't used the pedal yet, and I still made a mistake almost at the end of the song and some brief stops while playing. I will fix the mistakes that I made in this video and continue to practice.

Sunday, November 13, 2011

November 9, 2011

We studied about chord progressions during the theory lesson. Then, we practiced our composition and corrected some notes in the instrument class.

I listened to the explanation well, but I made some mistakes in notating my composition and while playing it.

I will try the chord progressions at home just to make me familiar with them. And also I will correct my mistakes and practice more of my composition.

November 7, 2011

We did the reflection for our singing assessment and discuss on how to use the Finale software for our composition in the theory period. During the instrument class we practiced our composition.

I listened to the explanation, although I know how to use the Finale already. And I did my Finale draft, so I did OK.

I will fix my Finale notation by changing the chords and practice it later.

Composition Draft#2 2

Reflection:

This is my second video on my composition. I have developed the left hand notes and I have played it slightly better than my first video. I will practice more and harder so that I can play my composition smoothly and with no mistakes.

Composition Draft#2 1

Reflection:

In this video, I have developed my left hand notations so it is not that simple anymore. I made a few mistakes while playing because I am not really used to playing the song yet. I will practice playing it more so that I won't make many mistakes.

November 2, 2011

Today we shared the results of our survey and learned how to use Finale. After the theory class we fixed our composition and tried it on the piano.

I did the sharing and listened to the explanation well. I haven't tried my composition on the piano yet, so it was pretty messy.

I will practice my composition and add the lyrics at home.

October 31, 2011

Today we did the singing assessment of Indonesia Pusaka and wrote the final draft of the 32 bars composition. And during the instrument class we learned on how to use Finale and try to add the left hand notes.

I did well on the first two tasks, and I did my composition in the Finale successfully.

I will work on the lyrics and the left hand of my composition at home.

Composition Draft 2

Reflection:
This video contains the same content as the first one. In this video I didn't stop in the middle of the song that often like in the first video but I made a single mistake towards the end of the song. But I just need to get used to the chords so I can develop the left hand notes later on, so it won't really matter that much.

Composition Draft 1

Reflection:
I played my composition with only the chords that Mr. Herry gave me, so it was pretty simple. In this video I made no mistakes but I often stopped in the middle of the song for a while so I can place my fingers on the correct notes. I will try to reduce the amount of stopping during the song.

October 26, 2011

We received an explanation about a survey that we need to do and sing Indonesia Pusaka. We worked on our left hand notes in class.

I listened to every explanation clearly. I did the left hand notes of the first four bars but I haven't tested it yet.

I will do the survey and practice and memorize singing Indonesia Pusaka at home and continue to add the left hand notes at home.

October 24, 2011

We extended our AA'BA' song from 16 bars to 32 bars. Then, we practiced our composition and also added the chords.

I extended my song in class, so I think I did a good job, and I also played my composition well.

I will try to fix my song and make it better at home. I will also practice it with the chords.

October 17, 2011

During today's theory music class we did a review on different types of music. Then, some of our classmates redid their music notation quiz. Me and my other friends worked on our MDWs.

I got a perfect mark on the quiz, so I did my MDW instead but it's not yet finished.

I will complete my MDW today and submit it tomorrow.

Monday, October 17, 2011

October 12, 2011

We studied about reading music during the theory music class. We also copied our AA'BA' songs to the draft paper given by Mr. Herry. Then during the instrument class we tried playing our AA'BA' composition on our respective instruments.

I finished my composition on the previous lesson. I think the result of my composition is pretty good.

I will continue to practice playing my composition on my instrument at home.

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

October 5, 2011

During today's theory music class we learned the term 'diatonic scales', which consist of major and minor scales and different types of songs like rondo, sonata and concerto. Then, Mr. Herry gave us an example of a rondo (not exactly rondo but AA'BA'). Then, at the instrument class we did our AA'BA' composition.

I did pretty well in this lesson. I did my research on the song types but it is not quite enough. Then, I finished the composition in instrument class.

I will do my own composition on the AA'BA' song and practice more on composing songs.

"Serenade" Video 4

Reflection:

This is my fourth practice video for "Serenade" by Franz Schubert. I guess I did this better than the previous videos because I received an email from YouTube saying that my video can be threatened with copyrights. I still need to pay attention to the dynamics and avoid making mistakes while playing.

"Serenade" Video 3

Reflection:

This is my third try on the same day for "Serenade" by Franz Schubert. I did better than the first and second video in this video but I still need to pay attention to the dynamics more. I also need to avoid making small mistakes while playing this song.

"Serenade" Video 2

Reflection:

This video is recorded based on my second try on "Serenade" by Franz Schubert of the day. I still made a few mistakes while playing the song. I payed attention to the dynamics more but I still missed some of them. Maybe this is because I didn't practice the song on the previous day.

"Serenade" Video 1

Reflection:

I recorded this video based on my practice on "Serenade" by Franz Schubert. In this video I made some mistakes while playing and sometimes I unintentionally ignored the dynamics written on the music sheet. I will try to pay attention to the dynamics more.

7th Chords Video 2

Reflection:

This is my second attempt on playing the 7th chords (major, dominant, major minor, half-diminished and diminished) from C to B. There are a few mistakes that I made while practicing. I didn't play them perfectly but I played them better than my first video on the 7th chords.

7th Chords Video 1

Reflection:

I recorded this video in my first try on 7th chords: major, dominant, major minor, half-diminished and diminished from scales C to B. I made a few mistakes but not that many. I guess sometimes when I'm bored and I practiced them helps me to play them pretty well.

Scales Video 2

Reflection:

This is my second try on playing the C to B scales. It's not really perfect but at least it's better than the first video. I still have some trouble with my fingerings when doing the backward scales, especially the F scales because I'm only used to play the scales with sharps, not flats.

Scales Video 1

Reflection:

This video is my first try on doing scales from C to B. My fingerings pretty messy because I seldom practiced scales with my piano teacher. I always got the backward scales messed up just because of my fingerings. Even though I got the E and B scale correct, they are the only ones that I got correct. The rest of it I got them wrong. I will try to avoid those mistakes for the next time.

Chromatic Scales Video 2

Reflection:

This is my second time playing 2 scales of chromatic scales. I tried to play them better than the first video. It turns out that I made fewer mistakes than the first attempt. I played them more smoothly when I played the scales backwards. Before I got confused with the fingerings, but in this video I played them with fewer mistakes.

Chromatic Scales Video 1

Reflection:

This is my first attempt on playing 2 octaves of chromatic chords. I made a few mistakes while playing it, especially with my fingerings. I'm not used to chromatic chords before and my fingerings are messed up, like when the transition from B to C, there's no black key, so I must use my index finger to press the B note, but I sometimes missed it.

September 28, 2011

In today's theory and instrument class, all of us practiced our songs because the assessment is postponed until Monday. I practiced in front of the class for two times, once in front of the counselor and the other one in front of 2 music teachers.
I did pretty well with few mistakes while playing the song. I still need to memorize and practice more of it.
I will practice more often and try my best to be able to memorize the song.

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

September 26, 2011

All of us practiced with our instruments for the upcoming assessment which is due on Wednesday in the theory music session. During the instrument class period we also practiced our respective songs by ourselves and in front of the teacher.
I did okay during the practice session, although I need to practice on the dynamics of the song more.
I will practice more frequently during the next two days for the assessment.

September 21, 2011

During today's theory music class we watched some of our classmates perform their song for the upcoming assessment. I think their performance was good. We also did the chromatic scale, which is new to most of us.
I didn't play my song for the assessment smoothly because I didn't have time to practice at home.
I ned to practice a lot more, since the assessment is only a week from today and also to practice doing two octaves of chromatic scales.

September 19, 2011

In today's theory music class, some of my classmates did the G, D, A and E major scales and 7th chords and their inversions. Then, I played 16 bars of my song choice for my assessment.
When playing my song I did okay, but I still played some notes wrong.
I will practice more frequently at home during my free time or during my piano lesson with my teacher.

Sunday, September 18, 2011

September 14, 2011

In today's theory class we had a test on major scales, chords and chord inversions. In practical class we played our songs for practice for the upcoming assessment.
I think I did well on the test, and it was pretty easy. For the song for the assessment I need to practice more of it because I can't play it correctly.
I will practice more on chord inversions and other major scales other than the usual major scales. I also need to practice my song for the upcoming assessment.

September 12, 2011

During today's theory music class we practiced the major scales, 7th chords and their inversions. In practical class we practiced our songs for the upcoming music assessment.
I did okay on this lesson. I wrote down the G major scale correctly on the board. For the practice session even though I didn't bring my sheet I remembered the beginning and played some of it.
I will practice the major scales and 7th chords as well as their inversions for next lesson's quiz. Not to mention my song for the assessment.

Saturday, September 10, 2011

September 7, 2011

In today's theory class we learned how to compose pop songs using 7th chords. Then, as a class we composed a short song. During practical class I did my presentation which was delayed for a long time and I also did ascending and descending C major chords.
I did pretty well during this lesson. I contributed to a small part of the song. I need to improve my presentation quality and my C major chords, since I have a difficulty in playing the chords backwards.
I will practice more of music composition so I'll be ready if there is an assessment for music composition and also for my personal project.

Thursday, September 1, 2011

August 24, 2011

Today in theory class we listened to our friend's presentation about different types of music genres. We also submitted our booklet about our respective genres. Then we listened to some of our friends redo their singing assessments. In practical class we did the 7th chords from C until B.

I listened to my friends' presentation carefully and I didn't disturb them. In practical I did the 7th chords well but I still need to practice more.

I will continue to prepare my presentation during the Lebaran holidays. I also will practice my classical song for the upcoming assessment.

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

August 10, 2011

In today's music class we are divided into groups and we discussed the music planner and the work division for the music genre presentation. I got to make the presentation about the country genre. In practical class we did the 7th chords and Mr. Herry told us to do the diminished chords at home.
I prepared all the materials needed in the class, so I think I did a pretty good job. In practical class I did the 7th chords pretty well but I still need to practice.
I will prepare the presentation in the next few days. And I will also practice the diminished 7th chords.

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

August 8, 2011

Today in theory music class we continued the singing assessment. I get to do mine first. Then some of my classmates did their assessments too. Everyone got their turn. Because of that we didn't have practical music class today.
I sang my song well, but I got distracted in the middle so I missed a line from the song.
I will practice my classic song for the end of this term. I will practice more of the scales and the 7th chords

August 3, 2011

Today we started our singing assessment. Some of our classmates have completed the singing assessment, while some of us haven't. I listened to 4 of my classmates sing, and they were good. After that we split up and learned how to play the 7th chords in C with Mr. Herry. He gave us homework to practice on the scales and the chords.
It's not yet my turn to sing, so I just listened to my friends sing. As for the 7th chords, I need to practice more because I'm not used to 7th chords yet.
I will practice my singing, my chords and my scales. I'll definately get my turn next Monday.

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

August 1, 2011

In today's music class we learned about 7th chords. There are many types of 7th chords: major, minor, dominant, major-minor, and diminished. Then, we submitted our minus-1s to Mr. Herry. After submitting them, each of us went to our respective music instrument classes. Me and my fellow piano friends stay in the room. Mr. Herry told us to play the C scale in 4 octaves. Then he gave us homework to practice the G, D, A, and E scale.
In my opinion, I did pretty well in this session. I prepared my minus-1 already. But when I played the C scale, my fingering position were not very good, because I forgot some of them.
I will practice my scales, just as Mr. Herry told us to do at home. Then, I will continue to memorize my song choice for Wednesday.

Sunday, July 31, 2011

July 27, 2011

Today our music class is the last period of the day. Mr. Herry reminded us about the singing assessment for next week and then talked about what will we learn for this semester. After that, he gave us a theory exercise. Then, we split up according to our instrument choice to our respective rooms. Mr. Herry talked about the piano and guitar instruments. Not long after that it is home time already.
I did well on the music theory exercise. Mr. Herry himself told me that. For me it was pretty easy because I studied major scales and chords for a long time.
I will continue to prepare for the singing assessment, figure out what song will I sing and download the minus-1 of the song. Then I will practice singing the song until I can sing it correctly.

July 25, 2011

Today is the first day of music class. We listened to Mr. Herry's explanation about what music class will be like. From him, we also know what will we learn this term. After that, the new students introduce themselves in front of the class. After they are finished, the other music teachers also introduced themselves.
For the rest of music class, we listened to what Mr. Herry has to say. I think I did a pretty good job by concentrating.
I will try to do my best in the future. I will figure out what song I want to sing next week and research about some of the musical terms that I don't understand.
